The painting entitled “The 60’s” encapsulates just some of the memorable events in that decade. Featuring: 

  • 35th president John Fitzgerald Kennedy or JFK. His years in office became associated with “Camelot.” Partly because both JFK and Jackie enjoyed the Broadway show and listened to the soundtrack before going to bed. “Don’t ever let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment that was Camelot”
  • The Rolling Stone magazine was founded in San Francisco as the magazine for music, politics, and popular culture
  • Audrey Hepburn starred in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” a romantic comedy based on the novella by Truman Capote
  • The Graduate is a film starring Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, and Katharine Ross – famous quote – “Mrs. Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me”
  • The 60’s was a counterculture decade known for protests, peace signs, and tie dyed clothing. Nothing encapsulated the 60’s more than Timothy Leary’s phrase “Turn on, Tune in, Drop Out”
  • Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Clay was an American boxer and activist. At the age of 22 he became the heavyweight champion over Sonny Liston. The rematch was over in the 1st He was and remains in our hearts as “The Greatest”
  • The 60’s ushered in the Pop Art movement. Most notably were the art of Andy Warhol’s soup can and the Love image by Robert Indiana
  • Jim Morrison was a singer, songwriter and poet best known as the lead singer for “The Doors.” The band spent the first two years in obscurity, until they went to #1 with the single, ”Light My Fire”
